Question # 4
Allied Advanced Lubrication.
Which MotorSilk products, and how much do I use for my vehicle?
Engine The same 16 oz. or 32 oz. MotorSilk engine treatment product is used for both gasoline and diesel fueled engines. You will require more than on 16 oz. bottle of your engine holds over 6 quarts of oil. Use one 16 oz. bottle of MotorSilk engine treatment for each 5 quarts of oil in the engine. Additional bottles are ordered individually. Note: When adding the MotorSilk engine treatment to the oil sump, always maintain the manufacturer's specified oil capacity by substituting the MotorSilk product for the equivalent amount of engine oil. Follow this procedure so as to not overfill the engine oil sump. For example, if the engine holds a total of 5 quarts of oil, including the filter, add 4 1/2 quarts of oil to the engine. Run the engine for 5 minutes to warm the oil, and then (shake the bottle well) add the 16 oz. bottle of MotorSilk engine treatment to bring the oil level to the specified 5 quarts. Run the engine for an additional 5 to 10 minutes to thoroughly mix the product with the oil. 5 Quart Oil Engines The engine treatment product is added to clean oil, at the oil change following the procedure above. 6 Quart Oil Engines For engines with 6 quarts of oil, add 5 quarts of oil and 16 oz. of product for a total of 5 1/2 quarts. Drive 500 to 1000 miles then add another 1/2 quart of motor oil for a total of 6 quarts. This method will allow you to treat a 6 quart engine with only one (1) bottle. An alternative method is to purchase 2 - 16 oz. bottles of MotorSilk engine treatment and add 1 and 1/3 bottle (19 oz.) to 6 quarts of oil. Over 6 Quart Oil Engines Engines with over 6 quarts of oil will require more than one 16 oz. bottle of MotorSilk engine treatment. Add the product at a 1 to 10 dilution ratio. For example, if an engine holds 8 quarts (256 oz.) of oil, add 1/10th the volume of MotorSilk engine treatment (256/10=25.6 oz.), or approximately 1 and 2/3rd bottles of product. Note: Always substitute the MotorSilk product in place of the equivalent amount of engine oil so as to avoid overfilling the engine oil pan or reservoir. Transmission The transmission product selection is either Manual or Automatic. Manual Transmission Note: Some late-model manual transmissions use automatic transmission fluid rather than traditional gear fluid. Please check your vehicle's specifications for the proper MotorSilk transmission fluid treatment to use. Consumer Manual Transmission Treatment (average driving) For the average consumer, one (1) 10 oz. bottle of MotorSilk gear fluid treatment is sufficient for all car and light duty truck applications. You do not need to drain fluid before adding the 10 oz. treatment if your transmission is not overfilled to start. The 10 oz. of additional fluid will not over fill the reservoir. Commercial / Industrial, High Performance Manual Transmission Treatment For heavy duty applications, add MotorSilk gear fluid to the manual transmission gear fluid reservoir at a 1 to 10 ratio. For example, if the gear box reservoir holds two (2) gallons of fluid, add 25.6 oz. of the MotorSilk gear fluid treatment. This is calculated as follows: 2 gallons= 256 oz. / divided by 10=25.6 oz. of product required. As a guide, use 1 - 10 oz. bottle of product for each 3 to 4 quarts of reservoir fluid. You may need to drain fluid depending on how much product is required for treatment. Automatic Transmission Consumer Automatic Transmission (average driving) For the average consumer, one (1) 10 oz. bottle of MotorSilk Automatic Transmission treatment is sufficient for all car and light duty truck applications. You do not need to drain fluid before adding the 10 oz treatment if the transmission is not overfilled to start. Following treatment, no special procedures or service are required. Simply follow the manufacturer's regular schedule of recommended transmission maintenance service. Note: For high mileage automatic transmissions (over75,000 miles) that have not been serviced regularly, it is recommended that the fluid and filter be changed and the vehicle driven for 500 miles prior to adding the MotorSilk treatment. Commercial / Industrial, High Performance Automatic Transmission For heavy duty applications, add MotorSilk Automatic Transmission treatment to the transmission fluid reservior at a 1 t o 10 ratios. For example, if the automatic transmission reservoir holds two (2) gallons of fluid, add 25.6 oz. (1/10th) MotorSilk Automatic Transmission Treatment. This is calculated as follows: 2 gallons=256 oz. / divide by 10= 25.6 oz. of product required. As a guide, use 1-10 oz. bottle of product for each 3 to 4 quarts of reservoir fluid. You may need to drain fluid depending on how much product is required for treatment. It is recommended that the fluid and filter be changed prior to adding the MotorSilk Automatic Transmission Treatment. When refilling the transmission, remember to leave out sufficient transmission fluid to be replaced with the required quantity of product. Fuel System The fuel system treatment selection is either gas or diesel. Gas The 16 oz. fuel system gas treatment is added every 10,000 miles and will treat up to 24 gallons of fuel. You may add the fuel system treatment more often for performance enhancement if desired. You can add the product to less than 24 gallons of fuel, but to maintain the proper dilution strength do not add more than 24 gallons. For larger fuel tanks, run the tank down to 24 or less gallons and then add the product. Or add additional bottles as required. Diesel The diesel fuel system treatment is designed to be added to the fuel tank at each fill up. Note: See FAQ # 10 (general) and FAQ #11 (Class 8 Trucks) for more information on the diesel fuel treatment use and quantity calculations. MotorSilk Quantity Calculation Formula It is simple to calculate the correct amount of MotorSilk to use for any application. MotorSilk is added at a 1 to 10 ratio to the fluid reservoir of the component to be treated. For example, if a gear box holds 5 gallons (640 oz.) of gear oil, add 1/10th or 64 oz. of MotorSilk gear treatment to the gear box. This formula is used for all MotorSilk applications, with the exception of the consumer (non-commercial) transmission treatment and fuel (gas and diesel) treatment products. Note: see FAQ #4 for more information on the consumer transmission and fuel treatment product quantity calculation formulas.
